After the melting of The Wicked Witch Of The West and the sudden departure of The Wonderful Wizard, Oz was suddenly thrown into chaos. Although Glinda did her best as the new ruler of Oz, it was difficult to step into the wizard's empty shoes. Setting up governments and rules still weren't enough, and violence errupted around Oz. With Glinda trying desperately to sooth the Kingdom of Oz, the future of Oz was bleak. Eventually, Glinda decided on a course of action: there had been tales of an enchanted girl, one who had been placed under a magic spell to prevent her from taking the throne of Oz. If Glinda could simply find this girl, maybe there would be some future for Oz after all. With this in mind, Glinda spent over three years just trying to locate the young girl. Eventually, with the help of the grimmerie, Glinda found the girl with the witch Mombie. After forcing Mombie to turn the girl back into her female form, Glinda banished Mombie to the infamous underground prison, Southstairs.
Now that Mombie was gone, Glinda brought Princess Ozma back to the Emerald City where she was re-instated onto the throne. Now, with a Princess on the throne, the fighting in Oz gradually ceased and peace settled over the land once more. Princess Ozma was a fair ruler and with Glinda as the Good Witch of the North, all was calm. Magic was banned from Shiz, and other than Glind and Princess Ozma, nobody was allowed to use it. However, Glinda had other ideas. She still wasn't satisfied with the way Oz was being run. With her new status, Glinda began her mission of turning the citizens of Oz away from the Wonderful Wizard. Blackening his name became her only goal, and after succeeding, she began a new quest: to change the public image about her green friend Elphaba. Although she knew that Elphaba had been melted by the young girl Dorthy, she wanted to preserve the memory of the girl girl and to give her the hommage that was rightfully hers. With the public's opinion changed, Glinda was finally able to rest.
What she didn't expect was for the green girl to show up.
Hearing of what Glinda had done, Elphaba and Fiyero had decided that it was safe to return to the Land of Oz. Upon arriving, Elphaba was immediately summoned to the Princess's chambers, and after a lengthy discussion with the Princess, Elphaba emerged triumphant as the Good Witch Of The South. Word spread quickly of her new status, and upon reaching Glinda, she was immediately furious. Sure, she had cleared Elphaba's name, but she hadn't expected the green girl to become a Good Witch too, a rival. Now, with a good witch for both the North and the South, both provinces quickly flourished. Glinda and Elphaba were both fair and just, and both had ideas that advanced their respective provinces. Upon seeing the result of having good witches in the province, the East and the West provinces both began clamouring for their own witches. Now, with pressure on her, Princess Ozma did the only thing possible: she lifted the ban on magic. However, magic was strictly controlled, only the Princess could decide who could learn it and who couldn't, and only two new students, a male and a female, were accepted into the program each year. As well, only Shiz University was allowed to teach it.
This being done, Shiz soon flourished in popularity, and eventually, the school was recognized for it's high academic achievements. Students from all over would attend Shiz, in the hopes of being accepted into the magical program there. However, even if a student was accepted into the program, it didn't mean they were safe. Their progress was strictly monitored and if they were deemed an unsuitable choice, they were pulled out of the program and their memories and knowledge of magic erased. As of now, no student has completed the magic course at Shiz. Seeing the possible power of having another witch of their side, Elphaba and Glinda immediately began searching for teenagers that could possibly have the ability to become a good witch or wizard. Scouts were went out around their lands, each other's lands, as well as the east and west, and possible candidates were brought back to them. However, even with the franctic search going on, not many people were found, and the Princess still had the last word about who would and wouldn't be able to learn magic.
However, even with the fierce competition going on, other students continued to attend Shiz. Many graduated in the sciences as well as from the law and history classes. Many went on to become members of the government in the Emerald City. Even though the Princess continued to search for the witches and wizards, she has also begun to search for students that have the capabilities to step into powerful positions within the government as well as become the governors for the four provinces. Realizing this, parents begun sending their children to Shiz with a new vengance. Students who graduated from Shiz were immedaitely successful, and many become famous and successful, as well as wealthy. Now, with the fierce competition going on, what will happen? Who will become the good witches or wizards? What will happen to Oz?
